Monifieth Landward Partnership - Background
Monifieth and the surrounding rural area is faced with a number of challenges to maximise its potential for residents and visitors alike. The centre of Monifieth provides services and facilities for the town and wider rural area, while the rural area offers a variety of recreational and cultural activities.
There are many challenges that could benefit from a joined up approach. The Monifieth Area Partnership was established in January 2004 to tackle some of the issues and problems for the town and landward area.
In February 2008, the Partnership was rebranded 'Monifieth Landward Partnership' to be proactively inclusive to surrounding landward areas such as Monikie, Newbigging, Wellbank and Murroes therefore from now on every second meeting will be in Monifieth Burgh Chambers with alternate meetings being held in landward areas.
Priority Areas
The Partnership has identified 3 priority areas as follows:
- Establishment of a Community Hall
The Monifieth Hall Steering Group continue to pursue this priority and a number of suggestions have been looked at to provide this facility. - Town Centre Redevelopment/Enhancement of Town Centre
The Partnership have been lobbying Angus Council and local business to look at the development of the town centre in light of the number of vacant premises - Improved Sports and Leisure Facilities
The Partnership is currently investigating facilities for sports and leisure in the area, including utilising the tennis courts at the seafront. This will also link into the community hall project.
