Local Community Planning
Community Planning is the term used to describe a range of activity which is intended to:
- create an agreed vision which partners can work towards
- give the community a say in the planning of public services
- ensure collaborative working among partners
This community planning work takes place both on an Angus-wide basis and locally.
The Montrose/Brechin Local Community Planning Team
This local Angus Council team assist communities and groups to contribute to the planning of public services for their area, and to contribute to wider policy discussions. This includes support to the Montrose Partnership which draws together a range of local organisations.
The team undertake localised community appraisals and also conduct visioning exercises to help create an agreed vision which can inform community planning.
The team also help local groups to initiate and run local projects to improve community life. This help is available to a wide range of groups including residents associations, village halls and community centres.

Local Community Plan
The Local Community Plan (1.5 MB PDF). provides an overview of planned developments in services in the area and an outline of the community's aspirations and priorities. The Local Community Plan will next be updated in 2013.
The Montrose and Area Local Community Planning Partnership
The partnership, known as Montrose Together, draws together all of the public and community run groups in the area, using their experience and knowledge to contribute to policy discussions and to promote collaboration.

Local Community Planning Partnerships can liaise with Angus-wide thematic planning groups:
- Community Safety Partnership;
- Community Care & Health Partnership;
- Economic Development Partnership;
- Children's and Learning Partnership;
- Rural and Environment Partnership
These links allow local groups to contribute to wider policy discussions.
Community Councils
There are three Community Councils in the Montrose area:
They represent the views of their particular areas. This covers any matters seen locally to be of importance, and also includes a specific role in commenting on planning applications.

Local Elected Members
The four councillors for the Montrose and area ward represent the community on Angus Council. Councillors also represent Angus Council on a range of other bodies that provide services in Angus.
Montrose and Area Local Children's and Learning Partnership
This partnership draws together the range of agencies concerned with services for young people and educational provision for the whole community.

Annual Housing Consultation Roadshow
This annual event provides groups and individuals with an opportunity to discuss developments in housing provision and management in their areas, and contribute to policy discussions. This forms one part of an overall approach to Tenant Participation in Angus.
