Angus Community Planning
Sidlaw/Newtyle
Background Information
In 2004 Approximately 50 representatives of public sector organisations, businesses and community and voluntary groups took part in a seminar at the Piperdam Golf & Leisure Resort in November which explored the main issues and priorities for the Sidlaw and Newtyle area. Various presentations included information on the land use planning framework and updates on the work of the Sidlaws Housing Research, the Newtyle Path Network and the Birkhill and Muirhead Park Development Group.
A number of workshops gave delegates the opportunity to exchange views and ideas with other participants and identify a number of priority issues for the future development of the Sidlaw and Newtyle area.
A number of issues arising from the discussions included the following:
- Improved transport provision
- Increased road safety
- Addressing the needs of young people - including improved facilities and activities
- Developing links and improving communication between public sector organisations and community and voluntary sector groups
- Accessing information and services including rural health services
- Economic development including rural employment opportunities
All the points discussed at the seminar are included in the seminar report (197 KB PDF).
Since 2004 local community planning has been achieved in the Sidlaw/Newtyle area with partners working with local groups on keys issues that directly effect them and their community.
