Background Information:

The vision for the Kirriemuir and The Glens Partnership is ‘to aim for Kirriemuir and The Glens to be a vibrant place for both the local population and visitors alike where a first class quality of life can be enjoyed by all. The community will be forward looking and positive, working together to enhance the environmental, economic and social conditions of the area’. The partnership will not seek to replace any activities currently carried out by local Community Councils, resident groups or any group that is seeking to improve the quality of life in the area, but it is hoped that the local Partnership can strengthen and work with these groups to bring forward co-ordinated plans for the area.

The local partnership is important in relation to the development of Community Planning within Angus which is essentially about organisations and communities working together to provide better services and improve peoples quality of life. The partnership provides opportunities for the community to engage and become involved in future planning for the area and therefore influence change within their own communities. The development to the current situation started in Kirriemuir at a seminar in June 2003 and meetings since then have progressed to the present stage where the partnership is set up with a full partnership agreement, including a vision statement and covering constitutional matters.

The Kirriemuir and The Glens Partnership have been involved in various projects since their establishment and are currently focusing on their top three partnership priorities for the Kirriemuir and The Glens area: the creation of a community/arts centre for community use; the Peter Pan Walkway Project - regeneration of the town to encourage tourism and for community use; and supporting the Kirriemuir Youth Project - to improve the facilities and activities available to young people in the Kirriemuir and The Glens area.
