 Monifieth Area Partnership Information:

 Introduction to the Partnership

Monifieth and the surrounding rural area is faced with a number of challenges to maximise its potential for residents and visitors alike. The centre of Monifieth provides services and facilities for the town and wider rural area, while the rural area offers a variety of recreational and cultural activities.

There are many challenges that could benefit from a joined up approach. The Monifieth Area Partnership was established in January 2004 to tackle some of the issues and problems for the town and landward area.

Monifieth Area Partnership Update 2006/2007

The Partnership has now been in existence for 3 years and over the last year representatives from 18 organisations have attended the meetings.

The Partnership has identified 3 priority areas as follows:

Establishment of a Community Hall

A Sub-Group has been established to pursue this priority and a number of suggestions have been looked at to provide this facility.

Town Centre Redevelopment

The Partnership have been lobbying Angus Council and local business to look at the development of the town centre in light of the number of vacant premises

Rural Transport Links

The Partnership has been in contact with First Scotrail to request additional stoppages at Monifieth and Broughty Ferry train stations.

Ongoing activities

The Christmas Lights Sub-Group has been active in organising an event on the 29 November 2007, 6.30pm-7.30pm, following the success of last year’s event.  A theme has been decided and local schools including rural schools have been contacted to participate in the event.  A poster competition is to be organised through the schools.  The Sub-Group is to submit an application to Awards for All for help towards the cost of the event.

The Health Sub-Group has produced a Health and Wellbeing Questionnaire which has been delivered to households in the Monifieth area through the Monifieth Matters Newsletter.  A similar questionnaire is to be distributed to pupils at Monifieth High School later in the year.  A report on the findings will be produced and may be used to develop local services.

The Partnership are also updating the Monifieth Tourism Brochure which they hope to have available for Spring 2008.

A number of organisations have delivered presentations to the Partnership over the last year these include House of Memories, Rural Transport Links - Angus Council, Focus on Alcohol Angus, Neighbourhood Services Angus Council.  Future presentations will include Volunteer Centre Angus and the Youth Justice Team.
