Brechin Tackle Litter Issues in Partnership
Partnership set up to tackle litter issues in Brechin.
Through the City of Brechin and Area Partnership, Brechin High School, the Community Safety Team, Tayside Police and Angus Councils Environmental Services have been looking at ways to tackle litter issues in Brechin.
It was agreed that handing out fixed penalty notices was not the best way to approach the issue and that an educational aspect and promotion of positive environmental awareness would be carried out at the school including peer education.
Maps showing the position of all bins in the city were used to identify areas for additional bins and a funding application has been submitted to the Environmental Improvement Grant Scheme by pupils at Brechin High School. Possible alternation of routes are being considered with the community safety wardens and consideration is also being given to pupils monitoring the littering situation during intervals.
Additional bin in the area will include a logo promoting the involvement of pupils from Brechin High School which is hoped will encourage ownership of the issues.
