Montrose Tourism Strategy Developments

Montrose Together met to discuss improving the Tourism in Montrose.

Following previous suggestions, discussion continues around proposals for a voluntarily staffed tourist office in the centre of Montrose and the possibility of an Angus wide portable tourist point. Montrose Together is encouraging ideas for consideration while discussion continues around the current tourist provision at the Montrose Museum.

The Museum Manager has highlighted that there has been a significant increase in the number of traffic visiting the tourist office at the Museum between 2007 and 2009. There are also plans to improve disability access to the tourist information at the Museum including the addition of a loop system, wheelchair ramps and a disabled toilet. Work is set to commence in October 2009 and it is hoped to be completed for the 2010 tourist season. Montrose Together has asked for consideration to be given to the lighting for visually and dual sensory impaired people. Plans are available in the museum or on online at angus.gov.uk.

Angus Council's Neighbourhood Service department has offered support for joint working including suggestions made around a possible increase in the provision throughout libraries and other tourist points across Angus which could promote tourist information. Montrose Together has been in discussion with other partnerships regarding the portable tourism provision and consultation is currently taking place around the Angus Tourism Strategy for more information please check www.angusahead.com.
