March 2010 - Forfar Fairtrade Initiative NEW!
The Forfar and Area Partnership is leading on the development of a Fairtrade Initiative in Forfar.
Fairtrade seeks to transform international trade in favour of the poor and disadvantaged, seeking to get a better deal for the farmers and producers in some of the world's poorest countries. In seeking to become a Fairtrade Town, a small group of volunteers is needed to form an Action Group in order to register with the Fairtrade Foundation and agree a list of things to do to get Fairtrade status. The main focus of the process is around encouraging local shops to sell Fairtrade products and to encourage local cafés and restaurants to use them.
An initial meeting took place in mid-February with support from a number of groups. The Forfar and Area Partnership have agreed to take this forward as a priority and will discuss this issue at their meeting in March. Anyone else who is interested in becoming involved, should contact Lee Haxton, or Jeanette Gaul at jeanettegaul@talktalk.net
March 2010 - Forfar Community Safety Group NEW!
In response to the production of a new Community Safety and Anti-Social Behaviour Strategy and the completion of a Community Safety survey in Angus, the local community planning team made contact with a number of groups in the town who may have an interest in these issues.
As a result of these discussions, the team organised an initial meeting of interested parties in early February. A good discussion took place, with support from Council officers and Tayside Police. The group agreed a small number of action points, which will be taken forward initially be the local community planning team, with the option of reconvening once the details of the points have been ascertained.
