Community planning is about everyone (organisations and communities) working together to make their area a better place to live.

Around 80 local people including 20 younger people came along to the open evening and street football session at the school in May. The evening brought together everyone involved with the Newtyle community to share concerns and ambitions for the village.

Representatives from Angus Council, the Angus Community Planning Partnership and Tayside Police joined local people in the small informal workshops which considered what needs to change in Newtyle, how do we do it and how could it be resourced? At the same time young people added their views during the Street Football and the feedback session in the hall.

The main priorities to come out of these productive discussions fall into three main groupings:

These are challenging issues for the community to address and although some can be dealt with immediately others require the longer term commitment of everyone with a stake in the community. It was agreed at the meeting that considerable work is needed to take some issues forward. Existing avenues such as the community council and the local area forum offer some opportunity but it was thought that a new community group might offer the best way of taking things forward.

A newsletter containing feedback from the evening was distributed to every household within the village, which can be accessed below:-

NEXT STEPS

At the open evening a number of people said they were interested in taking the priorities highlighted at the open evening forward, particularly those relating to facilities and activities, and it was suggested that a community group might be formed to carry this out.

Those interested have now agreed to meet on Monday 5 July to discuss this – 7.30pm in the Legion Hall. More people are needed so if you are interested in getting involved, either at this meeting or in the future, please contact Barbara Stewart on (01307) 466924. The group will be community led but with support available from outside organisation
